Twelfth Night, or What you Will
Two books on performing Shakespeare
(now in the W.B. Lewis Library)
During the production of Twelfth Night the Deep River Players purchased two great books on Shakespeare and donated them to the W.B.Lewis Library (the most efficient way to share their use!):

"Freeing Shakespeare's Voice", by Kristin Linklater, is a "passionate exploration of the words of William Shakespeare. Beginning with exercises designed to break long-held habits and allow a visceral, Elizabethan relationship to language ... she analyzes Shakespeare's strategies for creating character, story and meaning through figures of speech, iambic pentameter rhyme, and alternations of verse and prose."

"Playing Shakespeare", by John Barton, is based upon a BBC documentary in the 1990s that drew upon the experiences of famous Royal Shakespearean Company actors (e.g. Patrick Stewart, Judi Dench, Ian McKellen, Ben Kingsley, David Suchet) to explore the adaptation of Elizabethan theatre to the modern stage. This book also includes a discussion of Shakespearean language by the author, a long-time associate director of the Royal Shakespearean Company.
