“NURSE JANE GOES TO HAWAII” TICKETS ON SALE

Tickets are now on sale for the Deep River Players’ next production, “Nurse Jane Goes to Hawaii”, November 14-16 at Childs Auditorium.

When Vivien Bliss, writer of Harlequin Romance novels, comes to spend a romantic weekend with respectably married school teacher Edgar Chisholm, she starts a train of events which involves all the classic elements of farce: confused identities, disguise, long-lost relatives, ambushes, chases, and glorious mayhem.

How Vivien gets her new novel finished in the face of, behind the back of, in spite of, and with the help of an advice columnist, a nosy reporter, a doctor in pantyhose, an orphan with a cake, and Helga the evil Russian physicist, is the story of this hilarious play by Allen Stratton.

Directed by Max Ryan, “Nurse Jane” features a dynamic cast of familiar faces and relative newcomers:

As “Vivien”, Phyllis Heeney finds the role of the energetic and scatter-brained ingénue an exciting stretch from her normally shy and demure lifestyle.

Jeremy Whitlock enjoys the challenging physical comedy of “Edgar”, noting that he hasn’t had his shirt off on stage since 1998’s “After Magritte”.

Leena Philipose sees her advice columnist “Doris” as the “straight man” to a host of colourful fruitcakes: Pat Hoelke is “Betty” the overbearing editor, Vanessa Sears is “Peggy” the zealous reporter, Ike Dimayuga is “Bill” the insecure doctor, and Kyle Wilkes is “Peter” the lonely adoptee.

The way these folks come together, and discover ties they never realized, is the crazy tale told vicariously through Vivien’s novel-in-progress “Nurse Jane Goes to Hawaii”.

But there’s one more reason to see this play: The Players are pleased to be donating proceeds to the Dustin Houde Memorial School Building Project, in memory of Dustin who passed away in 1992 (more information is available on the Players website, www.DeepRiverPlayers.ca).

Tickets are $20, and are available at Pinecrest Florists and Country Meats, or at a booth outside Valu-Mart on Thursday evenings and weekends.

Show times are November 14 and 15 at 7:30 pm, and a Sunday matinee at 2:00 pm on November 16.
